Illinois New Teacher Collaborative (INTC)
June 21, 2022 at the iHotel in Champaign Urbana
Zaretta Hammond's book, Culturally Responsive Teaching & The Brain has intrigued many educators and challenged them to pivot our teaching practices from teacher led to student led however, most educators conceptually understood the book but need more support in classroom implementation. This session will educate and empower educators on how to set up
and maintain a classroom environment based on the four practices of CRT: awareness learning partnerships, information processing, and community building.
Culturally Responsive Teaching
Zaretta Hammond's book, Culturally Responsive Teaching & The Brain is the foundation of this session in order to support educators in creating and maintaining a classroom environment
based on the four practices of CRT: awareness, learning partnerships, information processing, and community building. These four practices will be defined, modeled, and strategized for
classroom implementation. By the end of the session, educators will be able to understand what it means to implement culturally responsive practices, how the brain and developmental
stages of students impact their learning, and a toolkit of takeaway strategies to implement into the classroom.
